A Note from Michael
I’m playing two great gigs in California this month, in San Diego on Sunday night at Folkey Monkey, and Wednesday at Tales From The Tavern, in Santa Ynez. In between I’ll get to drive in a leisurely fashion up that beautiful coastal highway and tap into the feeling I only get when I’m doing that. This has to do with songwriting, and I always seem to have the same revelation. When I first started writing seriously, in West Hollywood, I knew I didn’t know what I was doing; and I came up with some very bizarre and out-of-the-question songs along with some songs that seemed to work. Now I don’t produce the bizarre ones quite as often, and I miss that “I don’t know what I’m doing” vibe. Well, what I see when I drive up the California coast is: truly, no need to worry, I still don’t know what I’m doing. And that’s liberating, in some odd way. And oh, yes, I have a program on WFMT this month about my various approaches to songwriting. Who knows what I’ll say.
