About Michael 2012
Recently singled out by critics for his performance as Captain Pedersen in Lookingglass Theatre’s stirring production of Eastland, Michael is back on the road this fall in his real-life role as singer/songwriter. One of the most captivating songwriters in the folk arena, celebrated musician Michael P. Smith has toured the United States and Canada for nearly five decades–from Kerrville, Texas to Juneau, Alaska. He creates new work on a constant basis, and his songs are recorded by an extensive list of performers, Steve Goodman and Jimmy Buffet among them. Michael’s beloved song “The Dutchman,” a signature piece for the late Liam Clancy (heard on the Celtic Thunder PBS television special, and CD), is considered a classic. With a full concert schedule starting in mid August, (after the Eastland, closes), it is clear presenters and audiences alike remain enthusiastic, and come back for more!
MICHAEL’S JULY/AUGUST E-NEWS
“Playing multiple roles and showcasing multiple skills in singing and playing instruments, the entire cast absolutely shines in their versatility. Michael Smith is one of the best, most distinctive voices in Chicago theater, and playing the real life Captain Pedersen, he commands the stage with his august presence and also plays a pretty mean folk guitar.” Eastland, Clint May, chicagotheaterbeat.com
Michael is in Eastland a play at Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago until
Aug. 19.
A Note From Michael
Eastland plays until the middle of August and then I get back to traveling…it’s gonna be oh so strange to be drivin’ around after three and a half intense months in Chicago doing this great play. I’ve learned a lot with this experience and doing concerts of my own material will be another journey of discovery for everybody concerned. Come see/hear me, I feel like a new guy.
