ABOUT JAMIE O’REILLY & ROOTS SALON
Jamie O’Reilly is a singer, writer, and arts producer with a 40 year-plus history as an arts activist in the vibrant cultural landscape of Chicago and its neighboring communities. The Roots Salon and the Roots Legacy Projects are programs of her cultural arts business J. O’Reilly Productions. Jamie hosts soirees and curates the Roots Salon, a century old family tradition of presenting art, performance and conversation. (See Rick Kogan’s Chicago Tribune feature about her here.)

Next In Old Chicago program is March 14 at Cliff Dwellers Arts Club: https://www.jamieoreilly.com/projects/in-old-chicago-songs-stories-of-a-beloved-city/

Jamie O’Reilly’s Roots Salon began in 1995 with a performance series hosted by Jamie, answering the need of Chicago artists seeking an intimate venue. Located in her Lincoln Square home, events at Roots were word-of-mouth happenings presenting music, visual art, poetry and theater. Over the next several decades, Jamie expanded her role as the Salonnière for the Salons, hosting soirees and a monthly women’s salon, membership events that included a master speaker series, workshops, caroling at Christmas, and Rootsfest, a summer music festival.

With the onset of Covid 19 and its brutal effect on indoor performance venues, Jamie sought opportunities to sing outdoors. In summer of 2021, she began Roots in the Garden at Tre Kronor Swedish Bistro, a beloved family business in Chicago’s North Park neighborhood that remained open with out-of-doors seating during the worst of the pandemic. Over the next several years, the events continued bi-monthly, eventually moving indoors and are now in the main dining room. In their latest home of Tre Kronor, as they begin their 4th year there, Jamie and company will keep the treasured family salon tradition alive.

Roots Salon 2024 Subscriber Series will include at least six events: Midwinter, St Patrick’s Day, April poetry month, Mother’s Day, MidSummer, an autumn salon and more. Roots will continue to present a broad array of intimate, enlightened evenings, with gifted professionals: folk, jazz, and classical musicians, poets, actors and authors, while welcoming regulars and building a new audience of people seeking intimate, community-oriented gatherings.
