Vocalist Jamie O’Reilly branches out this holiday season with
a diverse line-up of performances
and new collaborations with a talented group of musicians.
As we immerse ourselves in Yuletide magic, Jamie O’Reilly and friends offer several opportunities to hear the singer: The Cliff Dwellers Holiday Tea, “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” Epiphany Night at Tre Kronor Swedish Bistro.
A lyric soprano with an affinity for singing folk music of a range of cultures, Jamie is something of a specialist in seasonal repertoire, singing with her family as a child, in church choirs, and in choral concerts as a DePaul School of Music student. Jamie began her professional, now 40-plus year career, as the soprano in a Rogues Christmas, a Madrigal Ensemble, (later Dickensian quartet), with members of Jamie O’Reilly & The Rogues, a popular Irish Band.

What followed were solo appearances in Chicago hotels and private clubs for galas and gatherings with guitarist Peter Swenson. And a series of variety shows and live radio appearances (WBEZ, WFMT) with various ensembles.

In the early 2000s, she was the featured vocalist with the late singer/songwriter Michael Smith in The Gift of the Magi, an Americana Ballet, for the Judith Svalander Dance Theater at the Woodstock and Raue Center. The Gift of the Magi became a beloved holiday CD album. It was performed as a radio-style musical, touring in area venues for over ten years and was featured on WFMT’s Folkstage program.
Listen to Let’s Have an Old Fashioned Christmas here.
In 2011, Jamie and Michael Smith debuted Songs of a Catholic Childhood, a musical review, setting their stories and songs in the season of Advent before and during the era of the “Kennedy Catholics.” The sold-out show at Chief O’Neill’s Pub in Avondale, became a CD recording.
As the 2023 holiday season begins and the year winds down, Jamie is creating new musical arrangements with fiddle/violinist Alex Morrill (December 18, “A Child’s Christmas in Wales”) and with classical guitarist Steve Vazquez (January 7, Epiphany Night).
A Holiday Tea at Cliff Dwellers on November 30 with Ed Torrez at the piano kicks-off the season, is open to the public, and will offer popular carols and singalongs, in the beautiful downtown club.
