Jamie’s Irish Sampler ~ 40 years of song

“As the years pass by and quickly too, the sound of your voice and the instrumental accompaniment become even more precious.”

Irish Song Sampler
Jamie O’Reilly shares songs from recordings with Peter Swenson, Michael P. Smith, John Erickson, Jamie O’Reilly & The Rogues, and the Jamie O’Reilly Trio, with Bob Weber.

To listen to her, in song or in speech, is to realize that she carries an
essential message. She enlightens. She empowers. She enraptures.”

Rick Kogan, WGN Radio, Chicago Tribune

Jamie’s 2023 recording of songs from In Old Chicago, recorded live at WFMT Levin Studio, has several Celtic ballads, accompanied by John Erickson on (grand) piano. Among them the Scottish song Annie Laurie, and I Know Where I’m Going, a signature song of Jamie’s Aunt Dorothy.

Jamie O’Reilly made her first musical recording in 1984 at WFMT Studio, the famed classical radio station, with Peter Swenson accompanying on guitar. Produced by Anne Hills, and engineered by long-time Midnight Special host Rich Warren, the cassette album had 10 songs, performed in the art-song style reminiscent of singer and harpist Mary O’Hara, a favorite of Stud Terkel.

In 2015, the album was remastered and re-released with two additional songs, accompanied by Peter Swenson and Michael P. Smith on guitar: the folksong The Butcher Boy, and Young Lad of the Braided Hair, words and music by Smith.
